2. P-04-341 Waste and Incineration
2.1P-04-341 Waste and Incineration - Oral Evidence (via video conference)
The witness answered questions from the Committee.
2.2P-04-341 Waste and Incineration - Consideration of Oral Evidence Received to Date
The Committee agreed to:
Issue a report on the issue of incineration of waste, and request a Plenary debate.
Write to the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development to ask him to consider the weight of support for this petition when considering the Committee’s letter calling for the Cardiff Incinerator plans to be called in;
Write to those who have given evidence to Committee on this subject to seek their views on the modelling used to inform decisions in relation to incinerators.
3. New petitions
3.1P-04-393 Llanymynech and Pant Bypass Action Group
The Committee considered this petition for the first time and agreed to:
Write to the Minister to seek further information on the background to the Llanymynech and Pant Bypass and to ask whether he would be willing to work with the relevant UK Government Minister to resolve the problems described the petitioners;
Write to the UK Government Secretary of State for Transport to ask whether she would be willing to work with the Welsh Government to resolve the problem, copying in Owen Paterson MP.
3.2P-04-394 Save our Services - Prince Philip Hospital
The Committee considered this petition for the first time and agreed to:
Write to the petitioners to ensure that they are aware that a consultation will be held on this matter;
Write to the Chair and Chief Executive of Hywel Dda Health Board to share the premise of the consultation with the Committee in an oral evidence session;
Inform the lead petitioner of the actions the Committee is taking and consider communicating the Committee’s actions more widely once the dates of the consultation are known.
4. Updates to previous petitions
4.1P-03-220 Lower the speed limit on the A40 near Abergavenny
The Committee considered correspondence relating to this petition. The Committee agreed to:
Close the petition;
Write to the petitioner restating the Minister’s commitment to undertake engineering measures in the current financial year, subject to the availability of funding.
4.2P-04-363 Town Centre Improvement Scheme for Fishguard
The Committee considered correspondence relating to this issue.
The Committee agreed to seek information on the outcomes and action points arising from the recent meeting held locally on this issue and to ask whether the Minister is engaging with the group.
4.3P-04-377 Continuation of Concessionary Fares on Community Transport
4.4P-04-392 Community Transport Petition
The Committee considered correspondence relating to this petition and agreed to forward the Minister’s announcement to the petitioners for comment, once available.
4.5P-04-380 Bring back our bus! Petition against the removal of scheduled bus services from east Lampeter, Cwmann & Pencarreg
The Committee received correspondence on this petition and agreed to:
Write to Arriva seeking clarification on the future of the current service;
Write to the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales to seek her views on whether the rights of older people in the community are being undermined by the changes in bus provision;
Write to the Minister to ask whether he has any plans to review the situation regarding the provisions of the Transport Acts that prohibit publicly funded services operating in areas where they would compete with commercial services, and to ask him to examine the operation of the Bwcabus service in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
4.6P-04-366 Closure of Aberystwyth Day Centre
The Committee considered correspondence relating to this petition and agreed to return to the issue following Members’ visit to the new facilities in June.
4.7P-04-376 Reorganise Education in Powys
The Committee considered correspondence on this issue and agreed to write to the new portfolio holder in Powys County Council to apprise him of the situation and to seek his views.
